Lesson 7A Journal: Studying Blogs

1. ACE Fitness – “A Woman’s Guide to Gaining Muscle”

Analysis: I liked how the article used statistical data to back up their argument — something I am trying to do in my own writing with this blog. All of the data was very straightforward and specific, which builds trust between the reader and the author that they know what they are talking about.

This article uses a soft lede due to the fact that it begins with a narrative hook instead of jumping straight into facts right off the bat. By using a common social standard for women (“fear of getting big”), it connects the readers through a shared feeling.

    2. Nomadic Matt – “Why Solo Female Travel is Different”

Analysis: The article used a very interesting hook to start off their writing. Along with this their writing narrative begins as storytelling and then shifts to questions about female solo traveling and answers with information on what can aid them.

This article uses a soft lede due to the fact that it begins with telling a story, whereas a hard lede would just start spewing statistics.
