About This Blog:
Women’s sports has grown at a remarkable rate, with a 3 percent participation increase over the past few years, and a 1,000 percent increase since 1972, according to NCAA. However, the media coverage regarding women’s athletics does not match this growth pattern, receiving only 15 percent of media coverage reported by UN Women (2024). This blog will use statistical data and real athletes to cover areas that are currently working, such as brand sponsorships with athletes, as well as areas that need improvement, such as the gender gap between men and women’s sports in brand marketing and media coverage. The goal is to redirect the attention towards women’s accomplishments and provide them with the adequate resources that are equivalent to their hard work.
About Me:

My name is Reese Hargesheimer, I am a senior at the University of Arkansas graduating this May with a bachelors in Advertising and public relations, with a minor in marketing and logistics. I am interested in working in sports marketing, specifically women’s athletics, because I am very passionate about gender equality and social justice. Through this blog, I plan to research how I can use my degree and understanding of storytelling to help amplify women athletes voices and give them the recognition they deserve.
